Teesside University
Partnering with Teesside University, this project supported a cohort of 12 academics in transforming research outputs into market-ready products and services. Using the Double Diamond framework, we designed a six-week programme with four full-day workshops. The process helped participants reframe academic work through a user-centred lens, resulting in multiple ideas with strong commercial potential.

Key Objectives
Support academics to translate research into real-world products.
Introduce user-centred and agile methods to a non-commercial team.
Develop a pipeline of solutions aligned with local business needs.
Our Approach
Designed and facilitated 4 workshops using the Double Diamond model.
Introduced journey mapping, user personas and prototyping.
Built reflection and feedback loops into each sprint.
Ended with a final pitch session to external experts.
Impact
Generated 15 ideas, of which 6 were taken forward.
3 ideas were market-ready; another 3 handed to commercialisation teams.
Built academic capability in design-led innovation.
